Criminal Defense Lawyer Serving New York, NY

Melanie Hammer was appointed as an Assistant District Attorney in Queens County in 2002. Over the next four years she handled thousands of cases and honed her trial skills. She was promoted to the Felony Trial Bureau and worked as an Arraignments Supervisor.

In 2005 she accepted a position as an Associate at Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, and Dicker LLP, one of the largest law firms in NYC, where she represented doctors and hospitals in complicated medical malpractice litigation.

Her passion for justice brought her back to criminal law and Melanie Hammer has been a criminal defense attorney in private practice since 2007. During that time she has handled thousands of cases.

“I consulted Melanie when a family member was arrested. Melanie has an excellent knowledge of the law and the legal system. She works quickly, returns calls promptly, provided us with important information, and helped us get a favorable outcome.” — Sandra

OUR PRACTICE

Our Services

Our clients know to turn to us with any legal matter,
and that if the particular issue is beyond the scope of our practice areas, we will assist them in
finding the professional assistance that is required. Our lawyers practice exclusively in criminal matters.

If you have been charged with DWI you need a lawyer to help you navigate the complicated Vehicle and Traffic Law and get you the best plea for your specific situation.
You need an experienced attorney who understands the value (or lack thereof) of the case and knows how to get cases dismissed. Having a female attorney may be an asset in your defense especially in front of a jury.
As a former prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney in practice since 2007 I have the experience to get you a dismissal, non-criminal disposition, or a program (if appropriate).
If you were the victim of a wrongful arrest, you received an Adjournment in Contemplation of Dismissal “ACD”, or you case was dismissed on the merits, then you can receive compensation your injuries, for the time you were incarcerated and your emotional distress.
Whether you are charged with a misdemeanor or a felony, I can help you navigate the criminal justice system and get you the outcome that is best for your specific situation.
When you have been issued a Criminal Court Summons (a pink summons, citation, or notice to appear) you have often been charged with a crime. These cases can result in criminal records.
Violations are not crimes, however, they have changed the priority for deportation for people here illegally. It is possible that a disorderly conduct plea can have immigration consequences.
Desk Appearance Tickets or DATs are Criminal Cases that can result in permanent criminal records.
